We got some exciting news last weekend as the winners of the Keeling Curve Prize 2021 were announced in a ceremony in Monterey, California. The Global Warming Mitigation Project team announced the 2021 winners out of 20 impactful organisations who were listed as finalists and we’re delighted to say, we were one of the winners!
The Keeling Curve Prize is an initiative from The Global Warming Mitigation Project that enables them to directly fund projects and programs that are reducing human-made greenhouse gas emissions - e.g. renewable energy, electric vehicles, zero-carbon innovation, and energy efficiency.
The awards span five prize categories: Capture and Utilization, Energy, Finance, Social and Cultural Pathways, and Transport and Mobility and this spread of categories reflect the wide-ranging scope and necessity of solutions to the climate crisis.
The Global Warming Mitigation Project is a nonprofit organisation that works to identify, activate, and accelerate projects and programs worldwide that are reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing carbon uptake. This includes direct funding of vetted organisations, enhancing networking and promotional efforts, identifying ways to unleash funding opportunities for climate solutions, and supporting climate justice.
The Keeling Curve Prize (named after the Keeling Curve graph that represents the concentration of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere since 1958) is a global award that identifies projects and programs with a proven track record of reducing and removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
Energise Africa received the prize in the Finance category in recognition of our work to get everyday investors to support small solar businesses that operate throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. We are incredibly proud to have been awarded this accolade by an esteemed judging panel and to be in the company of the other impactful finalists, that includes Ignite Power who are bridging infrastructure gaps and providing basic services such as internet access, electricity, and healthcare in order to lead sub-Saharan Africa into a more sustainable, inclusive future.
Winners of the Keeling Curve Prize receive a $25,000 award towards their organisations’ efforts and Energise Africa looks forward to putting this to good use in the months to come as we continue to look at innovative ways to help bridge the climate funding gap for developing countries.
