Social and environmental impact
By scaling solar generation, adding battery storage, and extending distribution networks, the project will enable 24/7 power access while supporting local economic growth through productive use equipment for businesses. Strengthening local operational capacity will ensure long-term sustainability, creating jobs and reducing reliance on polluting fuels.
Social Impact
The Green Mini Grid expansion funded by the bond offer will provide more than 300 homes and businesses with reliable electricity, both during the day and at night, thanks to the grid’s new battery storage. The grid expansion will boost economic empowerment, job creation, productivity, safety, and education, paving the way for a brighter future in Dungu, DRC.
Safer streets
The project will install 680 streetlights in Dungu, improving safety and enabling activities after dark in public spaces, streets, and schools.
Better education
Reliable electricity will improve study conditions for students, extending time for learning and enhancing access to electricity in schools.
Boosted economy
Local businesses will benefit from reliable power as well as productive use equipment including water pumps, freezers for vaccine storage, cold rooms, and electric vehicles, significantly contributing to the rural economic development.
Environmental Impact
This project will deliver significant environmental benefits by enabling the mini grid to generate an additional 684 MWh of clean solar energy each year, preventing around 547 tonnes of CO₂ that would otherwise come from wood and biomass. By replacing these with clean electricity, the project directly reduces human‑induced pressures such as deforestation.
