Energise Africa and CEI Africa extend partnership to power clean energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa
At Energise Africa we’re delighted to announce our collaboration with CEI Africa has been extended. CEI Africa are providing an additional €2.5 million in match funding to help us scale access to clean, affordable energy across sub-Saharan Africa and mitigate risk and Impact Together’.
This extended framework agreement marks an exciting new chapter in our joint mission to unlock private capital and tackle energy poverty — one of the region’s most pressing challenges.
Blended finance for greater impact
Through our partnership with CEI Africa, we’re able to offer blended finance to clean energy companies working across the continent. CEI Africa’s match funding will sit alongside investments from UK-based retail investors on the Energise Africa platform, providing additional capital while helping to reduce the risks often associated with investing in emerging markets.
This co-financing model enables us to support more high-impact businesses, from solar energy providers to developers of Green Mini-Grids and offer investors the reassurance that institutional funding brings. CEI Africa’s funding will help us to de-risk the investments on our platform, which has the potential to benefit our community of investors
CEI Africa’s commitment is expected to mobilise at least €5 million in private investment into the off-grid energy sector. By strengthening investor confidence and sharing the risk, this partnership has the potential to deliver real and measurable outcomes:
- More households and businesses connected to reliable electricity
Reduction in reliance on diesel generators and kerosene
Lower carbon emissions and improved air quality
Jobs and economic opportunities for rural and peri-urban communities
In addition to the credit facility, CEI Africa is also providing a Technical Assistance grant to help strengthen Energise Africa’s operations. This includes support for legal and technical due diligence, which will enable us to grow our offering, reach new markets, and develop new types of clean energy projects.
CEI Africa’s renewed support comes at a critical time. With millions still lacking access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa, innovative financing mechanisms are urgently needed to drive progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 7 — ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable energy for all.
“This credit facility will further leverage investment in access to clean energy in rural sub-Saharan Africa. We’re excited by Energise Africa’s new leadership and strategy, and look forward to seeing greater deployment into off-grid and Green Mini-Grid projects.”
At Energise Africa, we’re proud to be part of a growing movement that empowers individuals to invest in a better future for people without access to clean energy or electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa.
We’re grateful to CEI Africa for their continued confidence and partnership, and to our community of investors for making this work possible.
